4/24/18 - Entrance Task
In your journal, title the top of the page, "Entrance Task: Newton's Second Law "
Apply Newton's Second Law to a previous lab (you may NOT use the Marble labs). How does mass, acceleration, and force play a role in this lab? Think about how much an object's mass and its acceleration affects the amount of force on the object. How does this relate to the Egg drop?
Explain using diagrams and captions.

4/23/18 - Final Egg Drop Model
You are going to create a model showing how forces and energy contributed to the survival (or death) of your egg.
Use evidence from your investigations/labs/readings from this unit to show how successful or not successful it was. Your evidence should support the following rules/details
Also - if your egg did not survive, how would you change it to make it more successful? Include a diagram of how you would change it and why. Include any materials you would have used and what their purpose would have been. You need a real world connection - connect it back to the Bowling Ball and Feather Important: LET YOUR PICTURES TELL THE STORY. Try to use writing only when needed - this should not be a wall of text |

4/10/18- Entrance Task
Step 1. In you journal, create two ramps with two different angles.
Step 2. Go to the Phet link and go to to the intro page.
Step 3. Click on the pie chart and bar graph.
Step 4. Play around with the skateboarder. Change his mass as well.
Step 5. Your journal, draw and explain how doe the amount of Potential Energy change when increasing/decreasing the mass? What is the relationship between PE and KE?

4/9/18 - Create a Mini CER
Create a CER on Kinetic Energy on Google Classroom or in your journal.
Question: How does the speed and the mass of the marble change the kinetic energy?
Make sure you use the correct format for a CER:
Claim-stating your thought including the question and variables
Evidence-using data to prove your thought
Reason- connecting your evidence and your claim

4/5/18 - Calculating Kinetic Energy and Graphing It
Step 1. Today, you will be finishing your calculations and your graphs. If this is not done by the end of class it will be homework.
Step 2. When done with you graphs, in your journals complete these two questions. What is the relationship between the mass of the marbles and the amount of kinetic energy? What are the relationships of the speed of the marble and its kinetic energy? Use your lab and your graph to help you.
Step 3. Once you are done with your questions, you may click the link to continue to explore kinetic and potential energy on PHet simulations. When you are on the Phet, click on the pie graph and bar graph to see the kinetic, potential, thermal, and total energy.

4/2/18- Marshmallow Catapults
Mission: Your group needs to design a catapult using the materials provided to launch a marshmallow into a target.
Materials:
Materials:
- Duct Tape
- Plastic Spoon
- Marshmallows (one large, one small)
- Measuring Tape
- Desk
- With a partner, you will have 10 minutes to design a catapult using the materials provided above.
- You will have 2 launches for each size marshmallow. Each launch you will have time to modify your catapults. We are measuring from where the marshmallow stops.
- For the large marshmallow you are aiming for the closest target at 5 meters. The farthest target is for the small marshmallow. This is 7 meters from the desk.
- You will record your data in your journals. Create a chart that includes distance from the bulls eye in the target and observations
3/28/18- Sir Isaac Newton Poster
Read and find information about Newton to answer and display your findings to a white blank paper.
Here are a few questions to help guide you during your research. These should all be included in your poster.
Here are a few websites to look at. You can look up other websites to find out more about Newton but here are some to start with.

- When and where was Newton born and died?
- What was his home life like?
- What was school like for him?
- How did he become interested in Science?
- What are some inventions that Newton created.
- Include Newtons Laws to the poster, how did he discover these them. What else did he discover?
- How did Newtons achieve his title of “Sir?”
- Find at least 5 interesting facts about Newton.
- Include at least two visuals in the poster that relate to your research. This can be done by drawing it or printing out pictures.
- Make your poster look visually appealing.

Instructions:
In your journals, compare two classmates’ three speeds from the sledding lab. How do the speeds differ from each other? What does each student have to do to get a higher speed? Use the terms: balanced/unbalanced forces, inertia, mass, and Newton’s First Law to explain your thoughts.
Inertia - An object's resistance to changing its motion.
